Description:
Emulsions for coatings and polymer dispersions for coatings and plastics, as an important part of coatings, adhesives and other polymer materials, their film-forming properties directly affect the drying properties of the final product, so it is very necessary to understand its minimum film-forming temperature.
Emulsion or dispersion material uniformly dispersed in a liquid medium (usually water) in the formation of the dispersion system, in the drying process, due to liquid evaporation can be prompted by inter-particle interactions, so that tightly combined. If the temperature is not high enough to make the polymer particles polymerization, the polymer particles are no longer agglomerated together, thus forming intermittent opaque white lumps; if the temperature conditions are sufficient to make the polymer particles polymerization, then the particles agglomerated together, then the formation of a continuous and uniform transparent film.
White Point Temperature: The temperature at which an opaque film is transformed to form a transparent film.
Minimum Film Formation Temperature: The lowest temperature at which a continuous, uniform, crack-free, transparent film can be formed (the white point temperature is generally a few degrees lower than the minimum film formation temperature).
BGD 452 Minimum Film-Forming Temperature Tester is a newest instrument developed by BGD, whose main structure is a metal gradient plate, and the two ends of the gradient plate are set up with refrigeration source and heating source respectively. Through the principle of metal heat conduction, different temperature gradients are generated on the metal plate. In the temperature gradient plate coated with a continuous uniform thickness of the emulsion or polymer dispersion of the wet film, dry air flow drying samples, samples at the same time by the gradient plate temperature evaporation of water and film. Due to the different temperatures on the gradient plate and the different positions of the sample film formation, to find the junction of the formation of a continuous transparent film and white opaque (unpolymerized), this point corresponds to the temperature on the gradient plate can be derived from the screen display, the temperature is the MFT temperature of the sample.
The instrument meets the standards of GB/T 9267, ISO 2115 and ASTM D2354; it can determine the minimum film forming temperature of polymer emulsion simply, intuitively and accurately.
