BGD 261 ASTM D 5895 Line Drying Time Recorder
Description
Drying Time
When developing a process, it is important to know the exact time it takes for a coating to dry or cure. Coating drying time is divided into several stages. After the coating is applied, the first stage is when the coating levels out under gravity. Once the coating begins to cure, a thin dry film appears on the surface.
But how do you know when the coating is completely dry?
With the BGD Drying Time Recorder, operators can easily identify each stage of the drying process.
A ball is placed in the coating and the recorder starts to move the ball at a predetermined speed, the mathematical formula being: distance = speed x time. As the coating dries, the ball leaves a trail in the coating that identifies each stage of curing.
Production Line Drying Time Recorder
The stages of film drying and curing are easy to detect, but difficult to define chemically and physically. To evaluate them satisfactorily, it is necessary to use instruments under controlled conditions.
BGD offers a versatile Drying Time Recorder to help quantify the various stages of film curing and drying, providing repeatable results and ensuring maximum efficiency.
This reliable instrument can test the drying time or gelation behavior of many paints and coatings by applying them via our cube applicator (BGD 203) on a 330 mm x 24 mm glass strip.
The drying time of each stage can be easily evaluated by means of a scale (configured according to the traverse speed). The total time for each test can be observed on the LCD screen.
1. solvent evaporation: deep pear-shaped blots
2. sol-gel transition: continuous trace
3. surface drying: interrupted trace
4. final drying time: needle no longer penetrates film
