Description: Determination of the scratch resistance of a coating is very similar to the scratch test for coatings, but the test method is based on the determination of the scratch resistance of a single coat of a color paint, varnish or related product, or of a composite coating layer, by means of a curved (ring or doughnut) stylus: the test product or system is applied in uniform thickness to a flat test plate with a homogeneous surface texture. After drying/curing, the scratch resistance is determined by pushing the test plate under a curved (ring or doughnut) pin, which is mounted so that it is pressed down onto the surface of the test plate at 45°, and the load applied to the test plate is increased continuously until the coating is scratched. The load that causes scratches to the coating in at least 2 out of 5 measurements is taken as the minimum load that scratches the coating.
As the main drafting unit of GB/T 31591-2015 "Determination of Scratch Resistance of Color Paint and Varnish" standard, BiaoGeDa has developed an instrument in line with this standard, which is unanimously recognized as having very high reproducibility and comparability after a large number of validation tests conducted by many scientific research institutions. This instrument is the first of its kind in China.
