Description:A typical interior wall coating system usually consists of a thick layer of putty, a primer and two topcoats. Therefore, the quality of the final interior wall coating depends on the entire coating system consisting of putty, primer and topcoat. It is also related to the quality of the construction conditions, such as paint film thickness and paint-water dilution ratio, which have a significant effect on the quality of the final coating system.
Previously, field tests for evaluating the performance of interior coating systems relied mainly on visual inspection, fingernail scraping and touching to discriminate. These methods are very subjective, because even for the same wall coating system, the results may vary from person to person, and these results are not repeatable. The new standard ISO 23169-2020 "Field Test Methods for the Assessment of the Quality of Color Paint and Varnish Coatings for Interior Walls" provides a standard test method for the field assessment of wall coatings, which scientifically distinguishes between high quality and low quality coatings by testing for "field cleanability (stain removal)" and "field resistance to wet scrubbing". This method is used to scientifically differentiate between high and low quality interior wall coatings by testing their "field cleanability (stain removal)" and "field resistance to wet scrubbing".
The principle of the field cleanability (stain removal) test: A standard stain is applied to the interior coating and dried for 10 minutes. The cleanability test is then carried out with the prescribed test apparatus (wet scrubber tester). The three irritation values of the coating are measured before and after the test.
Principle of on-site wet scrubbing test: After the coating has cured for at least 7d at room temperature after construction, the coating is moistened with a wet towel, then the wet coating is scrubbed with an instrument covered with a black cloth, and the chalking or color difference is measured to assess its on-site wet scrubbing resistance.
